The Promise

In March 2020, I had the fortune to be on Safari in South Africa's Kruger region. When the announcement came that the world was basically shutting down, I sheltered-in-place. And what a place! I stayed just outside the Kruger National Park. I went to sleep each night hearing nearby hyena and lions, guided by the stars of the Southern sky. And I woke each morning to a chorus of birdsong, all of which were unknown to me. Once we could walk the local trails, I became curious and fascinated by the many animal footprints and tracks that I discovered.
I prayed to African skies to encounter a teacher, to decipher and glean deeper understanding of this vibrant ecosystem.

My prayers were answered in a huge way. I came to realize that I was in the epicenter of nature guide training, not just for the region, but for the world. I began studying with the living masters of the bush. Eventually I did a Field Guide training with Lee Guttridge at his esteemed Nature Guide Training school.

When I had to leave, I vowed to share the wonders of the place … and the teachings of these masters ! So I'm thrilled to invite you all to come to Africa on Yoga Safari!

A Day at the Safari

⸺ Dawn in the Bush

We will start our days early, with a wake up at around 05h30, and enjoy a light, “safari-style” breakfast at around 06h00. You might choose to rise even earlier and join Dylan for a pre-dawn yoga session, the morning birdsong beckoning us to journey.

⸺ Morning Safari

Sunrise is a great time to get out, with evidence of animals on the ground all around us in their tracks. Sometimes we'll catch the usually nocturnal animals still in action. The morning safari will also present precious opportunities to practice yogic techniques, such as pranayama and meditation, completely immersed in nature.

⸺ Brunch at Camp

After 3-4 hours exploring, the sun's gathering heat guides back to camp for a hearty brunch. Dietary requests and observances can be catered for and we pride ourselves on eating well in the bush.

⸺ Mid-days Activities

We find time throughout the mid day to engage in a meditation or a discussion, read a good book, practice a bit of yoga and/or simply take a rest in the pool.

⸺ Afternoon and Sunset Safari

This safari will usually extend into the dusk and early evening. We will generally depart around 15h30 or 16h00 depending upon the heat and the desires of our group and teachers. As the day cools, the bush again presents a treasures of sights and sounds to witness and learn from. Sunsets will oft find us atop some marvelous viewpoint, a sundowner beverage in hand.

⸺ Evening & Dinner

We return for dinner at dusk, and our menus are full, varied and delicious. Evenings are spent together around the campfire sharing stories, learning about the stars or simply enjoying the night's sounds.
